Queen Elizabeth II, with more mobility problems, celebrates her 96th birthday privately on this Thursday at her residence in Sandringham, in eastern England, a place full of family memories and considered the favorite place of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died a year ago.

The sovereign, who celebrates the Platinum Jubilee this year – 70 years on the British throne – received congratulations from her family while the Royal Artillery, like every year, fired more than 40 cannon shots in the central London park of Hyde Park.

On the occasion of this day, the royal family has uploaded a photo of Elizabeth II on their social networking sites when she was two years old and another recent one in which she appears with two white ponies.

Family Congratulate Queen Elizabeth II On Her 96th Birthday On Social Networking Site

“Happy birthday, Your Majesty,” says the family members on their Twitter accounts, emphasizing that Elizabeth II was not destined to become queen when the snapshot was taken as a child.

Elizabeth II’s fate changed when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated in 1936 and she, the daughter of King George VI, became crown princess, assuming the throne years later in 1952.

In addition, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, wished the Head of State a happy birthday and stressed that she is “an inspiration to many in the United Kingdom.”

“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today. She is an inspiration to many in the UK, the Commonwealth and the world. It is particularly special to celebrate in this Platinum Jubilee year.” the message posted on the Twitter of the dukes.

There were also cannon salutes in other parks in the country, as a way of honoring the longest-serving sovereign in British history and the one who has remained on the throne the longest, surpassing the almost 64 years of Victoria’s reign (from 1837 to 1901).

Isabel II, reduces her public appearances

Elizabeth II, who had covid-19 in February, has been reducing her large public appearances after spending a night hospitalized in London last October to undergo tests and suffering a muscle injury to her back in November.

The weakness of the sovereign has forced other members of the British royal family to replace her on many occasions, such as the recent Easter mass at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, which was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with two of their three children – Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Due to her advanced age, Elizabeth II has chosen Windsor as her permanent residence, where she reviews official documents, signs laws or receives ambassadors via digital connection.

The official Queen Elizabeth Birthday Celebration 2022, in June

As is tradition, the official celebration of the queen’s birthday in 2022 is on the second Saturday in June, when there is a military parade of the royal guards, in their red uniforms and bearskin hats, which is known as “Trooping the Colour”.

This colorful parade, which takes place in the presence of Isabel II in the Plaza del Regimiento, next to the Saint James Park, will take place this year on June 2, to coincide with the four days of official celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee.

In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic crisis, the sovereign decided to suspend this parade, something she repeated last year due to the death of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Some 1,400 officers, 200 horses and 400 musicians from ten musical bands participate in this “Trooping the Colour”, which Elizabeth II inspects from her chair in the regiment square.

The queen is expected to participate in this celebration, which concludes with a greeting from the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the rest of the royal family while planes of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) make a low flight leaving a trail with the colors white, red and blue, those of the British flag.
